Drawings
As exercise in the practice of focus, drawing is indispensible . Drawing is my primary artistic grounding, the first art I grasped. My practice of drawing has been constant. Consistently and fluently, drawing is a language I practice and improve daily.
SUNSET ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
Pastels on paper, four inches square
These drawings are done with Nupastels on archival paper and are each four inches square.
The sun setting on the Mississippi river is one of the great beauties of the North American continent and has inspired natives, travelers, and hunters for thousands of years. I began drawing the sunset on the Mississippi when I first moved to Memphis four years ago and each drawing is a unique challenge to my focus and skill as a draftsman. The changes in color occur so rapidly that I have to begin and finish each drawing in no more than 12 minutes.
These drawings are an essential item for native Memphians celebrating the beauty of their hometown.
